:D :D That's fantastic! Well worth waiting for! I can't believe you tracked it down so quickly! I was half expecting it to have been scrapped or to have disappeared but this is great news! She's still in service! Thanks to Johannes too for some great photos there, and they didn't even know how unique it is?! It looks to be very well cared for. What are they using it for? Do they have any old photos of it ?? ....when are they decomissioning it?

A truly unique find! It might be worth keeping an eye on that one! ;)
Thanks Roland

PS Why did it have a mast? Does an ABC Errkw have similar radio equipment to a FuKW TEL80?

I think I'm gonna ask Johannes some more questions.

It wasn't me to be honest who informed them. Bevölkerungsschutzmuseum Hamburg e.g. already put out feelers to her.

The radio equipment is similar to a FüKW-TEL, but just one FuG 8b-1 radio set instead of two units.

We are going to have to have a run out to that museum!!! :D I wonder what they'd think to a car park full of ex KatS vans!

Here are Johannes' answers to my questions:

the Syncro recently clocked up 85,011 km.

The roof clamp a n d the mast are fastening points for measuring devices like a wind gauge etc.

The glass half of the sliding window behind the driver's seat has been stuck all over with a sheet of metal to serve as a clipboard.

The water tank contains approx. 10 litres.

Despite the radio call sign ('93' stands for ABC-ErkKW) the Syncro is mainly used as a crew carrier (just four seats!). Not all the measuring devices came with the car.

Unfortunately Feuerwehr Reh-Henkhausen doesn't have any old photos of it and also has no idea when it will be decommissioned. They are caring for it very well indeed.

Yeah, to me it seemed like the handle to scrub it (just kidding). ;)

The strange white 'mushroom' (reminds me of coprinus comatus, the shaggy mane, yum yum) obviously was a weather-proof measuring device. It's missing now but there is still a plug on the roof and inside are a thermometer, hygrometer and barometer.

Due to a new 2009 Hagen radio concept Reh-Henkhausen became extinction group 15 and the radio call sign accordingly swapped from 20/93/1 to 15/93/1.

Servus, the "holy gray" (the orange colored 16 inch Syncro T3 from Kat-Schutz Dachau) now is mine!! It was built on Dec. 7th 1990, delivered to the Kat-Schutz on Jan. 7th 1991 and has only 11.100 km (eleventhousand!) on the clock, two diff-locks and two turning seats. I won't change anything and don't intend to drive this Bus at all. It will be stored savely and warmly the next 10 to 15 years -at least! If anyone could tell me how to post photos ... I guess I'm too stupid for this! Thanks you and Ciao from Bavaria

Congrats!!! :) ()

Now I know, what the MFG letterings remind me of! The MFP (Main Force Patrol) in Mad Max. ;)

A good idea to store the syncro for the future; hopefully a good one without breakdown of society and love. /\:)
