T2 KEF Kerzenheim

Post by rolandrat » Sun Aug 23, 2009 2:24 pm

Feuerwehr Kerzenheim replaced their VW KEF (Kleineinsatzfahrzeug = small action vehicle) by a Merc Sprinter.

Their website still shows the loading, my mate Micha could grab it, but without all that nicely arranged stuff.

Florian Kerzenheim 72 is a '79 panel van.

Some overdue pics I could take yesterday. \:)/

Image

As one will notice Micha removed the '72' callsign and '112' stickers.

Image

Also note, that the socket for stand by battery charge and preservation had been moved from its original location behind the driver's kick panel to the side panel.

Image

Micha furthermore took off the ugly homemade footstep on the rear bumper. The handle of the tailgate and the filler cap were replaced by lockable ones.

Image

Why the heck 'Eisenberg' :?:

Micha also gently removed the 'Kerzenheim' stickers to unveil the original former door letterings. The vehicle obviously was 'donated' once from the city of Eisenberg in Rhineland-Palatinate to its township district Kerzenheim.

And yes, one can spot a St. George's cross in the city arms! It is used very often in Christian countries.

Very nice! Though i would have kept the 72 decals, it was a good year! Excellent vintage! Is Micha keeping it? What are the plans for it?

It will definitely become no campervan, as Micha already owns a tatty '79 Westi Helsinki and a mint '77 Westi with a basic interior, an early Multivan so to say. He stumbled over it by chance whilst having a look at a Feuerwehr Unimog together with a mate.

One plan was to use it as a parts hauler. It came without the Feuerwehr loading; despite the missing windows Kerzenheim used it as a crew carrier and had managed to squeeze a T3 bench into it ... e:( . Removed for sure in the meantime.

I like the Winter/mud and snow tyres on the back. Also, which is the FuKW78 inside?! 8-)

Yes, the tyres on the back are weird compared to the ones on the front (also M&S though).

You are an excellent KatS spotter, John :) () ! The one visible inside the shed actually IS a FuKW 78. Could also be a FüKW-TEL 80 (stored further behind), how do you know?

It's mine BTW.

/\:) Only on about the third visit to the thread did I spot it! So not that eagle eyed really. So this is yours Roland, excellent!

If you look you can just see that there is no rear set of side windows. I made this slightly enhanced part of that pic to make it more visible (for this post, not for my own spotting pleasure of course! ahem, i'll get my anorak) /\:) :ugeek:

A sad occasion to continue an old thread. :(

At a Beetle specialist I spotted this unlucky Type 21 F. It immediately turned out, that it actually is the one introduced above 6-[ . Like some others it started a 2nd life as a beer promo vehicle.

My camera was low on power (panic! :O ) but I could manage to do some shots

Image

The fire fighters weren't T2 experts: why did they expect the engine bay behind the tailgate and didn't open it gently by poking a finger or a tool into the uncovered lock hole and pushing the lash?

The plan is to restore the van /\:) and a tailgate without a window ain't easy to find

Image

I furthermore could source a pic of the fire which has been extinguished with a foam nozzle.

What a hard fate for an ex fire Bus! e:(

Inside the fenced part of this Beetle bonanza I could also spot another fire T2
