Reason was the German Evangelical Church Assembly (Deutscher Evangelischer Kirchentag), which is an assembly of lay members and clergy of the Evangelical Church in Germany. It sees itself as a free movement of people brought together by their Christian faith and engagement in the future of the Evangelical Church and wider society.

The Assembly's main mission is the holding of a five-day congress, moving from city to city in Germany. It brings together between 100,000 and 200,000 visitors, who participate for the whole period. It was founded in 1949 and has achieved a high importance, as can be seen by many attending politicians, including Chancellor and Federal President.

The Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. (JUH; German for "St. John Accident Assistance"), commonly referred to as Die Johanniter, is a voluntary humanitarian organisation, the German Protestant descendant of the Knights Hospitaller. One of the main reasons for its creation in the early 50s was the rise in injuries and deaths from road traffic accidents (hence the word "accident" in its name).

At the Kirchentag the JUH is responsible for the ambulance service and furthermore offers transportation and escort service for the disabled.
