PMR 446

Post by Dubmatix » Sat Aug 21, 2010 11:07 pm

As a few members on here have dabbled with Amateur radio, CB and PMR I thought i'd add this section. If you've managed to reuse existing radio components for Amateur/CB/PMR bands or just installed a good system that works then post a topic in here and share it.

I have picked up a Puxing 888 for use on the PMR 446 bands. Removeable antenna for patching into vehicle systems is a plus! But you couldn't do that legally.

Also thanks to the excellent info on Transmission1 http://www.transmission1.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=4 (which i see has a user called Clockworkorange! the same one??!) I found this 446 antenna. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0467796896

The bonus of this for KatS owners is that if you are lucky enough to have Kathrein SL mounts still on the roof, these antennae simply screw straight on with the supplied wingbolt though i think the tuning circuit in the original base needs to be bypassed (simple) if you have the K50 65 4 21 base as that's designed for a max of around 80MHz. The antenna can then be tuned for SWR using the tuning bead slider with grubscrew.
Discussion on these here http://www.transmission1.co.uk/forum/vi ... =4&t=13641

I did need to file 2mm off the bottom of the threads as the antenna hole is threaded as well as the base. It fits perfectly with this mod!

I just need to pick up some quality co-ax and decide how to wire this! Via the original patch panel or not?
