Campsites That Allow Campfires
Re: Campsites That Allow Campfires
Whilst looking for a spot for Harlech for an upcoming trip, I found this!! Just outside Harlech, Gwynedd, North Wales at Llanbedr. http://www.nantcolwaterfalls.co.uk/ with a river, waterfalls AND firepits....bliss!
It is close to the airfield where they fly unmanned taget drones from! We watched a few of these last time we camped in Harlech a few years ago. Note....just looked, they no longer fly the drones... The airfield is closed Here's a link to that stuff for those interested....and for those REALLY interested, there is a book called Target Rolling that i bought whilst on holiday there last time (sad i know but hey!) if anyone wants to borrow it they can. Or buy it here....http://www.amazon.co.uk/Target-Rolling- ... 1857801369
Llanbedr target drones http://www.swatt.org/airfield.html
The airfields drones started with converted Spitfires flown by radio remote control then moved onto other aircraft and eventually jets! Now I like radio controlled planes but that is extreme! They were used for towing firing targets of various types. The Jindiviks also towed flares for missile firing too. We camped near there in summer 2004 and i kept wondering what these strange orange planes were....then i saw the book! The airfield closed in the October so we saw the last year of operation of these things....ok now i'm way OT....maybe i like them cos they're orange?!
