Newbie with questions!!

Post by VW T25 Feuerwehr » Fri Mar 25, 2011 5:54 pm

Hi all new to EVW

After seeing Emergency vans at shows I wanted to get involved! So my Ex Bosch panel van needs to be sold :-) as I have just bought a t25 Feuerwehr it still has all original sign writing on, sirens, loudspeaker, and blue light.
Pictures to follow. :-)

I have been trying to find out informaion on legalality of driving a signwritten ex fire van in uk and saw older posts about blue lights which where helpfull - thank you!

I do still have a question that hopefully someone has the answer to as have been looking for weeks now!

Q: Can I drive my Ex German Feuerwehr with the signwritting, siren lights etc.. in Germany legally? As we go to a Festival each year there.

Hope someone can help!

Thanks

Firstly, welcome to the forum, i'm glad you've found some useful info already! Looking forward to seeing some pics of your bus.

In answer to your question on signwriting, I would say no...you'd probably be better to get some magnetic signs made up with alternative text on or just plain red. Also a cover for the blue light at the very least. Theoretically the Polizei could still pull you over for having the light fitted (if i remember a conversation i had with Roland correctly) regardless of whether it is covered. We didn't know that when we went to Luxembourg and Germany and even took part in a police led convoy around Wolfsburg and didn't have a problem (with the light covered up and we didn't have our signwriting back on then).

We will get some magnetic signs (blank orange probably) for our next trip to Germany just to be on the safe side. And probably just cover up the light as we do here.
That's my thoughts on it but we have some German members who will add to/correct this i'm sure. /\:)

Thanks for the quick response guys.

Pics will go up but probably after Volksworld - last trip in the trusty old Panel van before it goes up for sale  Why can't I have enough garage room for 2!!

Thats what I expected unfortunately about the writting! Was quite looking forward to driving her in her FULL glory through to southern Germany!
I will have a look around for some magnetic strips - maybe I could have them made up with the fire text in English when in Germany?!

In regards to the light cover I have seen these in pics of some of the vans on here, whats the best way of making them so they stay on?! In the meantime I think I will be using a black ski sock!!

Wolsburg police escort sounds like a good road trip story!

First of all, welcome to the forum!

Whenever being pulled over by the cops in a foreign country it could be helpful in general to refer to the fact, that your vehicle IS legal in the UK. This concerns especially aftermarket tyre/rim combinations and exhausts, lowering jobs etc.

To be on the safe side in Germany it's OK to cover the blue light(s), a sock (any colour but not blue!) will do the job. Some people use a piece of plastic pipe. Additionally you can disconnect the wiring and/or remove the bulb.

Same with the sirens. Just disconnect them. Some cops appreciate a cover when bumper mounted.

I'd also disconnect the loudspeaker.

As for the signwritings Feuerwehr, city name and 112 stickers are legal. In contrast to the Red Cross: the name and the cross itself are registered trademarks.

You should cover the city arms though, no private person is allowed to sport them; or you hope not to be accused for improper use.

So you can drive her in more or less her full glory to southern Germany (Hockenheim?).

Signwritings make it easy to chat up local folks. :)

Thanks for the Welcome Roland

That sounds great, so disconnect all and cover only the coat of arms and blue light, simple!

No not Hockenheim (although that would be good too!) We are going to Aalen as its the twin town of Christchurch where I live. We go to help their Round Table during the "Riechsstadter Tage" (excuse the spelling!)

Thanks again for solving that for me!

You are welcome!

Small world, Aalen ain't far from my home, about 60 km; actually we are also located at the B 29!

Never heard about their Reichsstädter Tage city fest though, so I googled it. Unfortunately you'll miss Vanfest then ... :(

I like your spelling, it translates 'smell city days', actually it means 'Imperial City days' .

Thats a lovely looking bay - recognise the isignia for the town to, think my friends in Aalen would love me showing up in an old fire vechile from their own town!

Yeah it is a bit ribbish it clashing with van fest - but its a great weekend down there maybe il consider alternate years from next year.

 I only got my "e" and "I" the wrong way round and it changes from imperial to smell city days! []<O

That would be a great idea in principle!

Actually Otto's mint Bay ain't from Aalen, he's just living there and somehow managed to get those huge stickers. Nobody accused him for misuse yet ...

Maybe you can swop vehicles on the spot ...

Scrambled letters sometimes create funny meanings! e:(
